Who we are

Alive Church Motueka is led by a team committed to both spiritual direction and practical support.

At the forefront are our Senior Pastors, who work alongside the Eldership Team to guide the spiritual growth and overall health of the church. Our Board takes care of governance and handles the practical and operational needs of church life.

Day-to-day administration is overseen by the Church Administrator, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Leadership of our younger generations is provided by the Children’s Ministry Leader and the Youth Ministry Leader, who create spaces where kids and teens can grow in faith and community.

What we believe

At Alive Church, our faith is centred on Jesus Christ—His life, death, and resurrection—and the call to follow Him wholeheartedly. As part of Christian Churches New Zealand (CCNZ) and the wider Churches of Christ movement, we are committed to living out a simple, authentic, and biblically grounded faith.

Our Core Beliefs:

Jesus is Lord
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, our Saviour and Lord. Through His grace, we are saved by faith—not by anything we can earn—and we are called to live transformed lives as His disciples.

The Bible is our foundation
We hold the Bible as the inspired Word of God and our ultimate authority for life, faith, and practice.

Baptism by immersion
We baptise believers by full immersion in water as a public expression of faith and identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

The Lord’s Supper
We celebrate communion (the Lord’s Supper) every week as a central act of worship—remembering Christ’s sacrifice and uniting together as His body.

Unity in Christ
We believe in the unity of all believers and seek to work together with love and grace. One of our guiding principles is:
"In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love."

Every church matters
We are a self-governing, local church led by elders and pastors. While we value connection with other churches, each congregation is free to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit within their own community.

Faith in action
We believe that following Jesus means living out our faith practically—sharing the gospel, caring for those in need, and making a difference in our world.

Our history

Alive Church of Christ Motueka is part of Christian Churches New Zealand (CCNZ)—a nationwide movement of churches committed to advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ through partnership, connection, support, and collaboration.

The Motueka Church of Christ began in 1902, when small groups of believers started meeting in homes. By 1904, gatherings had moved to the Lower Moutere Hall, reflecting the steady growth of the community. In 1915, the first church building was established at 374 High Street, providing a permanent place for worship and fellowship.

As the church family continued to expand, so did its facilities. On 29 June 1992, the current building was officially opened—marking a new chapter in the life of a church built on a long legacy of faith, unity, and mission.

Today, Alive Church continues to serve the community of Motueka with faith, love, and a heart to see lives transformed by Jesus.
